Apple TV+ has been expanding its horizon, by bringing a unique addition to its action-comedy genre, The Family Plan. Directed by Simon Cellan Jones, and produced by Municipal Pictures, that is, Mark Wahlberg’s production company, the film is also principally led by him. This project will be the second film shot together by Wahlberg and Jones, since Arthur the King which will drop in 2024.
The script of the rollercoaster ride of a film was penned by David Coggeshall, of Orphan: First Kill-fame. The Family Plan stars Mark Wahlberg as the family man cum ex-assassin Dan Morgan, his wife is essayed by Michelle Monaghan, while Zoe Margaret Colleti is daughter Nina Morgan, and Van Crosby is son Kyle Morgan. The film also features the likes of Ciarán Hinds, Maggie Q, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Jonny Coyne.
The official synopsis reads, “Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) loves his quiet suburban life as a devoted husband, father of three and successful car salesman. But that’s only half the story. Decades earlier, he was an elite government assassin tasked with eliminating the world’s deadliest threats.”
“When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan and takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas. Determined to protect his family—while treating them to the vacation of a lifetime—Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity.”
The Family Plan will be releasing exclusively on Apple TV+ on December 15, 2023. Its trailer was dropped on November 6, 2023. Early in the trailer, Michelle Monaghan’s character bemoans the simplicity and smallness of their lives, despite everything being great.
Well, she gets what she wishes for, with her seemingly diaper-expert hubby Dan pulling off suave karate chops with his baby strapped to his chest in the supermarket, marking the beginning of their iconic family trip adventure.
