The Game: You Never Play Alone, the latest Tamil web series, dropped on Netflix recently and stars Shraddha Srinath in the lead role. The series is a thriller which is set against the backdrop of the gaming world, with the protagonist Kavya as a game developer. Kavya, who faces the brunt of the patriarchal world, is severely harassed on the night of her award show. The seven-episode-long series is helmed by Rajesh M Selva, and much like many thrillers, ends on a note that zeroes down on the culprit of the crime. Or does The Game actually do it? Let’s find out.
Kavya (Shraddha Srinath) and her husband Anoop (Santhosh Prathap) are game developers in a company called Moon Bolt. Even as both of them are successful, Kavya faces patriarchy and step-motherly treatment from some in her office, including their boss Roshan, and society. It is on the night she receives an award for the game, she is assaulted by masked people and left bruised. This case is taken up by crime branch officer Banumathi (Chandini), who probes into the attack.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Kavya’s teenage niece Tara, who now lives with her grandmother, gets acquainted with Dev via social media, who is part of the hacking community that targets young girls to share intimate pictures of themselves and extort money and banking details in return for it. Amid this, Banumathi has to not only catch hold of the group but also find out who was Kavya’s assaulter.
Towards the end of the series, we see Tara has tried to kill herself by drowning during her swimming pool class following the excessive torture of Dev. When Kavya rushes to the hospital to save her niece Tara, she is attacked once again by masked men and in the confrontation, Kavya is able to catch a glimpse of the man by pulling off the mask. She quickly identifies the man to Banumathi, as an employee of an internet company and had come for a routine check. The cops then try to connect the dots, and this leads to Madhesh, who has been tracked as the source through which Kavya's ugly videos were uploaded. However, Madhesh is found to be murdered before the police could reach there. Looking through the CCTV footage, the police spot the same internet man, Siddharth. He is found to have been brought up in a highly toxic and patriarchal household, reflecting his hatred of women being treated as equals. As police confirm Siddharth as one of the perpetrators, he has now gone into hiding. Meanwhile, police track Tara's blackmailer, Dev
On the other hand, the police narrowed down three men from the online gang who were behind Kavya's attack. One of their codename is Clearminds 83, which Moon Bolt intern Dani deduces who to be. After chancing upon a few Moon Bolt colleagues talking about how one of their team mates Vikram always uses the phrase 'clear mind, fast fingers' to play online games, Dani understands that Vikram is part of the attack. Vikram, who had once worked for a different gaming company, had lost the award to Kavya and joined Moon Bolt later. While he behaved well with Kavya to her face, he had long thought that she was given the award only because she was a woman and had attacked her to get the trophy back. He, along with Madhesh and Siddharth, who also believed that women are second to men, had planned the attack. However, Vikram confesses that his idea was only to take back the trophy that he thought rightly deserved, while the two other misogynistic men went on to assault Kavya further, to put her down.
At the end of The Game, Kavya, Anoop, Tara and their colleagues Dani and Anne are chilling at a beach house, when Siddharth once again breaks into the house and lodges an attack. It is at this point, Kavya and Vikram are out at the beach as the former realises Vikram's intentions. Even as he has accepted his mistakes and apologises, Vikram and Kavya get back home and find Siddharth ready to attack her. After realising his mistakes, Vikram tries to stop Siddharth, as Kavya attacks Siddharth with the trophy in Vikram's bag. With Banumathi assuring that Kavya will not face any charges because all was done for her self-defence, the case has not yet been closed.

Back home, we see Moon Bolt being acquired by European investors, while Banumathi comes to know that Madhesh's account has been sent money in Euros. As she deduces some connection, Roshan, Moon Bolt's boss seems visibly unhappy with the European acquisition. It is suggested that Roshan too might not be too happy to work under a female boss, given that Ms Renaud is negotiating from the European company side. We also see another employee, Gautham, part of the online chat site targeting women, sending messages, possibly involved in the attack. Gautham is shown to have had a short-term romantic fling with Kavya before her wedding. Combined with Roshan's unwillingness of women in the workplace and Gautham's past with Kavya, it is hinted that they too might be involved in this plan that is orchestrated due to the misogynistic bent of mind and weak male ego that pushes them to do deadly things.
