The Gift Season 3: Here’s all you need to know about the Turkish show on Netflix

When Netflix first dropped the trailer of the much-anticipated Turkish show The Gift (referred to at first as Atiye), fans were in for a treat. The series was initially based on the novel by Şengül Boybaş. The Gift Season 3 will be the finale of this show and will begin right after the point where season 2 ended.

The Gift is a Turkish spiritual fantasy drama that lends a never-seen-before look into the beautiful city of Istanbul. The Netflix original is helmed by the same team, that is behind ‘The Protector’ — one of the most successful international shows on the platform. Although the story is about a woman’s newfound connection to spirituality, it stays grounded to reality — well, somewhat. It is a simple tale without any overly outrageous plotlines. As a result, the show, which has spawned two seasons to date, was appreciated by fans who love this genre. Now that the second edition has concluded, let’s get to the details of the upcoming third iteration.

The Gift follows the life of Atiye, a young and gifted painter having the perfect life in Istanbul. She has a well-to-do family and a well-off and caring beau. What's more, she is to hold her solo exhibition soon. However, everything changes when a paleontologist Erhan finds something inside the oldest temple on Earth, i.e., Göbekli Tepe. An image found in that antiquated sanctuary connects Atiye to Göbekli Tepe. Now, Atiye's life is no longer perfect and she needs to unwind the mysteries of her past covered up in those ruins.

Season 3 of The Gift released on Netflix on June 17, 2021, around the world. The Gift season 2 premiered on September 10, 2020, on Netflix. It consisted of eight episodes. If you have watched the second season, you will know that it ends on quite the cliffhanger. Atiye decides to fulfill her quest after realizing that she is the only hope for the world’s future. But then, her bravery comes at a heavy price. And the season just ends here — leaving us with questions like - Where will Atiye’s journey take her from there? Of course, this meant that the creators had another season planned in mind.

In the end, Atiye discovers the reason behind the death of the expecting mothers. She realizes that it is up to her to save the future and for this, she needs to do something, i.e., give birth. The last moments show Atiye frantically following her newborn daughter, who is carried away by a hooded stranger. Season 3 explores the fate of Atiye’s child and chronicles our protagonist’s journey as she sets off to search for her lost baby.

The show is a collaboration between Turkey's OG Medya and British filmmaker Alex Sutherland. Along with Onur Guvenatam, Özge Bağdatlıoğlu and Jason George are also associated with its production.

Like the past two seasons, fans will be seeing their favourite Beren Saat as Atiye, Mehmet Gunsur as Erhan, Melisa Sensolsun as Cansu, and Civan Canova as Mustafa. Similarly, Tim Seyfi plays Serdar. You'll see Basak as Serap and Mention Cetinkaya as Zuhre, though Hazal Turesan will play Hannah. Sadly, there will not be a season 4 for this show as Netflix reported that the show would end with season 3.
