The Girlfriend team reveal Anu Emmanuel casting prior to trailer launch

There is very little that actor-filmmaker Rahul Ravindran has revealed about his upcoming film The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty in the lead. The general perception, based on the teaser and the little that the cast has divulged is that it is an intense relationship drama that they think will have audiences introspect and have a conversation about their own relationships after they exit the movie hall. The film is releasing in theatres on November 7, 2025, ahead of which, the trailer will drop on October 25. The launch event is at Hyderabad’s AAA Cinemas from 12 pm onward.

Anu Emmanuel returns with The Girlfriend

Ahead of the trailer launch, in a surprise move, the team made a new cast revelation. Anu Emmanuel, better known for roles in films like Japan, Ravanasura, Urvasivo Rakshasivo, among many others, returns after a brief hiatus with The Girlfriend. Going by the poster that was revealed to announce her being a part of the film, it appears that Anu as Durga and Dheekshith’s Vikram do get quite cozy with each other. So, beside the rather toxic nature of their relationship, Rashmika and Vikram, also deal with a love triangle.

Rashmika, who is currently seen onscreen in the Maddock Horror Comedy Thamma, The Girlfriend marks her fifth release of the year. She was a part of the highest grossing film Chhaava, as well as Sikander, and Kuberaa earlier in 2025.

The Girlfriend has Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music, and Krishnan Vasanth’s visuals. The film also stars Rao Ramesh, Rohini and Koushik Mahata, among others. The film will release with dubbed versions in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
