The fans were in for a surprise when the Netflix 2024 slate announcement event finally ended their curiosity and provided a premiere date for Kapil Sharma’s revamped comedy show, The Great Indian Kapil Show. The comedian-actor is back to doing what he is most loved for, but this time not on television, but on OTT. The show has been one of the most anticipated ones for various reasons, the topmost being Kapil reuniting with Sunil Grover after a very long time.
But what was also exciting was the first episode featuring the Kapoor family, including Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. But where is Alia Bhatt? Read on to know everything you should about the same.
For the uninitiated, the first episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featured Ranbir Kapoor, who walked in wearing a bright red Indian attire, with mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni (who now has a Netflix show for herself too). The trio was there to kick-start the new journey for Kapil Sharma, who has brought his television IP to Netflix now. But while they had a lot of fun, fans were curious why Alia Bhatt didn’t make it to the show alongside her husband when the theme was family. Turns out Netflix couldn’t afford her.
Netflix Couldn't Afford Alia Bhatt?
Yes, you read that right. As per a Bollywood Life report now, Alia Bhatt was also approached to appear on The Great Indian Kapil Show alongside husband Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. But the streamer couldn’t align with the fees that Bhatt was demanding, leading to the makers dropping the idea of having Alia with Ranbir as their combined fee would have been exorbitant.
To give you a perspective of how Netflix couldn’t afford Alia Bhatt for an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, the streamer has allocated a certain fund for each episode of the show, and the makers are supposed to pull off the episode within that budget. If Alia Bhatt had asked for a number that exceeded the set budget, the makers would have been in a tough situation. Thus, when the makers couldn’t meet Bhatt's desired fees, she declined to appear on the show.
Celebs Now Getting Paid?
Meanwhile, this also confirms that celebrities will now be paid for appearing on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Previously, many graced the episodes for free as they were promoting their projects. The latest and first episode of the show has entertained fans as they all loved the candidness and the return of the team. The Great Indian Kapil Show will return with new episodes every Saturday on Netflix.
