The Greatest Night in Pop on OTT - Here's where and when to watch this documentary about a daring musical endeavor

Directed by Bao Nguyen of Bruce Lee documentary Be Water fame, The Greatest Night in Pop is another docu gem of his that follows the writing, recording, and making process of the eighth best-selling physical single of all time, the 1985 global hit We Are The World.

Produced by Lionel Richie, Julia Nottingham, Larry Klein, George Hencken, Bruce Eskowitz, and Harriet Sternberg, The Greatest Night in Pop will premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024, and will drop on Netflix on January 29, 2024.

A group of world-famous musicians from America made the song and recorded it under the name USA for Africa (United Support of Artists for Africa). The proceeds of the record-breaking sales were donated to African famine relief, especially for Ethiopia that suffered the brutal famine of 1983-1985. With over 20 million copies sold, We Are The World became a massive hit, both for its amazing musical caliber and humane cause.

The Greatest Night in Pop chronicles the struggle of making one of the top charity tracks of all time

The irony? Such a major hit had been recorded in a whirlwind manner, over the span of a single night, by assembling 46 of the biggest musical stars back then. And being 1985, there would be no mobile phone or wifi to keep us connected and coordinated. Now, imagine doing all these impossible things, for a noble cause, adding an extra-heavy guilt chip on your shoulder.
