Regina King, Idris Elba and LaKeith Stanfield in The Harder They Fall | Netflix
Netflix has released a trailer of its upcoming "new school" Western, The Harder They Fall.
Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) stars as outlaw Nat Lov on the tail of his enemy Rufus Buck, played by Idris Elba (Luther), who was recently released from prison. Accompanying him are Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and Jim Beckwourth (RJ Cyler).
But Rufus is not alone. He is joined by “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), making them a crew that never accepts defeat.
According to Netflix, The Harder They Fall is an "action-packed thrill ride that injects New Blood into the Old West."
Set to the trailer that has enough fight sequences is a new track that features Jay Z and Kid Cudi.
With The Harder They Fall, Netflix is expanding its roster of projects that include more diverse voices and faces.
Jeymes Samuel, who has previously worked with Jay Z and Baz Luhrmann as executive music consultant on The Great Gatsby, directs from a script by Samuel and Boaz Yakin. Samuel has previously helmed a 2013 Western, They Die By Dawn, starring Rosario Dawson, Giancarlo Esposito, Kelly Hu and Isaiah Washington.
Jay Z produces the feature that boasts of an all-Black cast with James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender and Jeymes Samuel.
Variety writes that the film will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 6. The film will then hit select cinemas and Netflix on November 3.
Elba was most recently seen in DC Universe film The Suicide Squad, directed by Jam es Gunn. His other projects include Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Beast and the Luther feature film for Netflix.
