The Heist Before Christmas is coming to spice up your Christmas eve with a double dose of heartwarming Christmas spirit and comedy crime adventure. Releasing on December 24, 2023, on Sky Max, the Irish Christmas drama dropped its trailer on November 24, 2023.
The official plot synopsis reads, “Twelve-year-old Mikey Collins, who’s dirt-poor and hates Christmas, finds two Santa Clauses in the woods. One has just robbed a bank (James Nesbitt) and is on the run with the cash, the other Santa (Timothy Spall) claims to have fallen out of his sleigh. Mikey has no time for this second guy- he's well past believing any of the Jingle Bells, spirit-of-the-season rubbish, even if his little brother Sean insists on treating the old man like a superstar.”
“Instead, Mikey’s determined to get his hands on the bank-robber's cash, convinced that this is the answer to giving his family the Christmas they all crave. But as Mikey risks everything for the loot, he comes to realize that maybe the spirit of Christmas is alive after all...”
The trailer of the film follows the plot outline cursorily in a surprisingly short official clip, that shows a disillusioned Mikey being tested by the spirit of Christmas, between a bad Santa, who is on the run with 80 grand stolen cash, and a supposedly good Mister Claus, who has simply fallen out of his sleigh.
Though his brother Sean leans towards the latter choice, Mikey finds himself tempted by the former’s loot. However, it is not money itself but young Mikey’s impoverished situation and dire need for his bike that tests him so.
Filled by hilarious antics and fight sequences between the kids and the criminal that are reminiscent of Home Alone, The Heist before Christmas, starring Timothy Spall, James Nesbitt, Bamber Todd, Joshua McLees, Bronagh Waugh, Lloyd Hutchinson Peter Rethinasamy, and Laura Dee, is a must-watch for the grinning and grumpy alike on Christmas eve.
