The Idea of You is a brand new upcoming rom com directed by Michael Showalter of The Big Sick fame with the screenplay written by Jennifer Westfeldt. Based on Robinne Lee’s popular, novel of the same name, the film’s dreamy premise involves an ordinary girl falling in love with a top-shot boy band’s hot lead singer.
Release date of The Idea of You
Though many have speculated the film to be based on a Harry Styles fanfiction, the author has set all such rumors straight. The Idea of You is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, along with several other production companies, and is set to debut on Prime Video on May 2, 2024, after a premiere at the SXSW (South by Southwest film, music, and media festival of Austin, Texas) on March 16, 2024.
Plot of The Idea of You
The film has not dropped any trailers yet but offered a couple of mini glimpses in a Prime Video sneak peek of the projects releasing this year. The Idea of You focuses around Soléne Marchand, a 40-year-old divorced mother, who takes her 16-year-old daughter Izzy to Coachella. During the festival, Soléne gets to know the 24-year-old singer of the renowned boy band August Moon and the two begin a passionate love affair.

Cast of The Idea of You
The film stars an iconic and talented cast, with Anne Hathaway starring as the protagonist Soléne, Nicholas Galitzine as Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the band August Moon, and Ella Rubin as Soléne’s daughter Izzy.
The Idea of You also features Reid Scott as Daniel, Annie Mumolo as Tracy, Perry Mattfeld as Eva, Jordan Aaron Hall as Zeke, Jaiden Anthony as Adrian, Raymond Charm Jr as Oliver, Jaiden Anthony as Adrian, Dakota Adan as Rory and Jordan Aaron Hall as Zeke.
What the film and the original novel is about, according to the author Robinne Lee
Though many had speculated the film to be a Harry Styles fan fiction, the author clarified the matter in a 2020 interview with Vogue. In the interview, the Robinne Lee revealed that though she had been inspired by Harry Styles, she created her character Hayes to be her “dream guy”, like a mix of “Prince Harry meets Harry Styles” with a bit of Eddie Redmayne.
She further asserted that the book was never supposed to be about Harry Styles, it was supposed to be a story about a woman in her 40s who is beginning to reclaim and explore her sexuality and herself at an age traditional society writes women off as desirable and viable and “whole”.
