The Karagattakaran duo is back! After a span of 23 long years, maestro Ilaiyaraaja and actor Ramarajan will be coming together for a film titled Saamaniyan. A picture of Ramarajan meeting Isaignani is doing the rounds on the internet. It is said that Ramarajan had personally requested the composer to score the music for his film, as Ilaiyaraaja was one of the major factors for his success in the industry. Ilaiyaraaja agreed to his request. The last time the duo had come together for a film was for Annan, which hit screens in 1999.
Saamaniyan will be directed by Rahesh, who had earlier made Marainthirunthu Paarkum Marumam Enna. The director wanted to cast a common man that suits the title and hence, he approached Ramarajan as he had been a representative of the common man in his films. The shoot for the film is on and we hear that the majority of the portions have already been wrapped up. Cinematography is by Arul Selvan and editing is by Ram Gopi. Stunts have been choreographed by Mirattal Siva. The film also stars MS Bhaskar, Mime Gopi and Radha Ravi. Saamaniyan will mark the comeback of Ramarajan, who had quit cinema to pursue a career in politics.
Karagattakaran, which hit screens in 1989 was one of the iconic hits in Tamil cinema. The rural entertainer revolves around the lives of Karagattakaran and was directed by Gangai Amaren. The film starred Ramarajan and Kanaka in the lead. Karakattakaran also marked the 100th film of the iconic comic duo of Goundamani and Senthil and the comedy scenes in the film, along with Kovai Sarala are considered legendary. The scene where Goundamani and Senthil argue over one banana, continues to be used by meme makers today after 30 years. The star cast also included Santhana Bharathi, Shanmugasundaram, Ganthimathi to name a few. The songs by Ilaiyaraaja were a super duper hit, too. The film became a runaway success at the box office.
