The Kashmir Files has been one of the most talked about films of the year. Starring Anupam Kher in the lead and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it has now become the highest grossing film of the year 2022.
The film collected Rs. 102 crore after two weeks, and has become only the third movie to cross the 100 crore mark after Baahubali: The Conclusion and Dangal.
The Kashmir Files saw a drop of 15% on Wednesday as it grossed Rs. 8.25 crore. Despite slowing down in its box-office run, the movie has now become the highest grossing film of the year. The film has gone over the Rs. 195 crore gross set by Akshay Kumar-led Sooryavanshi.
The movie has now collected a whopping Rs. 198 crore and will reportedly earn Rs. 205 crore by the end of the week. However, the 300 crore mark looks difficult to achieve for the movie, with the much-awaited release of S.S. Rajamouli's RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, set to hit theatres on March 25.
Co-written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty among others.
“When you realise that the film is attempting to show everything, you wish they had spent time on making you feel that loss, that pain of perhaps one or a few families. Even well-made documentaries can sucker punch you. This 170-minute long film feels like a hasty cram about a gigantic loss,” reads the movie’s review on OTTPlay.
Bankrolled by Zee Studios, the film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir insurgency. The movie has received mixed reviews and is available to watch in theatres.
