The Kashmir Files starring Anupam Kher has been making a lot of sound since its release on March 11. Vivek Agnihotri’s film has now finished the opening weekend strongly.
The film collected Rs 15.10 crore on day 3, taking its opening weekend box office collection to Rs 27.15 crores. The movie is also doing well outside the country, collecting Rs 2.15 crore in the global box office.
The film opened to half full theatre screens on the first day, collecting Rs 4.25 crores at the worldwide box office. The second day saw a growth in footfalls, with the movie collecting Rs. 8.25 crore net, thanks to the addition of many screens around the country, particularly in mass markets where the film had not been released on day one
Co-written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the movie is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency in 1990.
The movie received mixed reviews, with the performance of the cast being praised. “When you realise that the film is attempting to show everything, you wish they had spent time on making you feel that loss, that pain of perhaps one or a few families.” reads the film’s review on OTTPlay.
Prominent stars such as Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan among others lauded the film through social media. Following the film’s release, it has been made tax free for moviegoers in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
Apart from Anupam Kher, the movie also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Bhasha Sumbali, Chinmay Mandlekar, and Puneet Issar among others.
