The Kashmir Files left theatres after a successful box office run and is now streaming on ZEE5. The controversial movie is still in the news, after the movie was banned in SIngapore. Politician Shashi Tharoor and director Vivek Agnihotri have now exchanged words on Twitter.
Shashi Tharoor earlier today posted a report about the movie’s ban in Singapore and wrote that the film promoted by the ruling party has been banned in Singapore.
Reacting to this Tweet, Vivek Agnihotri shared a list of banned movies and wrote that Singapore has the most regressive censor in the world and has even banned The Last Temptations of Jesus Christ. The filmmaker also wrote that even a romantic film called The Leela Hotel Files will be banned. He also asked the politician to “stop making fun of Kashmiri Hindu Genocide”.
The filmmaker took to Twitter again, sharing screen grabs of other users’ reaction and asking the politician if late Sunanda Pushkar was a Kashmiri Hindu. He added that if this is true, according to Hindu tradition he must delete the tweet and apologise.
Actor Anupam Kher also took to Twitter, and said that the politician’s callousness towards the genocide is tragic and should show some sensitivity towards the issue for the sake of Sunanda.
Directed by Agnihotri, the movie stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi among others. The Kashmir Files, which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir insurgency, received mixed reviews but did well at the box office.
The movie, which hit theatres on March 11, is set to start streaming on ZEE5.
