The Delhi and UP belt of India is invested in The Kashmir Files and thus, no other movie, including RRR, has any wave in the districts as much as Vivek Agnihotri’s film. The latest report from Box Office India suggests that the advance Box Office collections for RRR is quite weak in the Hindi-speaking belts, especially Delhi and UP. The Ram Charan-Jr. NTR starring film is not the first to be affected by The Kashmir Files wave in Delhi and UP. Akshay Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey also suffered majorly in these districts.
While Delhi and UP show resistance towards RRR, the movie’s advance tickets are being sold at a faster rate in Mumbai and Gujarat. However, since the Hindi-speaking belt is also a huge market, SS Rajamouli’s film could suffer on the opening day.
RRR advance bookings have opened up from Sunday but early numbers suggest that the Telugu version of the film is performing better than the Hindi version. It is to be noted that these collections are only from big chain of cinemas.
Right up till 2 pm at March 22, 15,000 tickets were sold for the Telugu version of RRR opening day. Meanwhile, a whole thousand less tickets were sold for its Hindi version – 14,000 tickets. Considering that RRR is a big-budget film, this could affect the film immensely.
Looking at the current trend, RRR is expected to go the 83 way. The movie could end up having its opening in single digits. According to the portal, it could mint Rs. 8-9 crores nett at best, looking at the current trend across India.
While a movie like Allu Arjun’s Pushpa could get away with not performing well in Delhi, UP or East Punjab, it is important for RRR to perform well everywhere since the hype around the film is huge and so are the expectations. Although the current trends are worrisome, the advance bookings are in fact open till Thursday and a lot could change by then.
RRR is not only dubbed in Hindi but also has two renowned Hindi actors playing pivotal roles in the film. They both are stars Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt (last seen in Gangubai Kathiawadi together).
Going by the current numbers, RRR’s growth at the Box Office will be certain after the weekend numbers are out. Will the film overtake The Kashmir Files’ wave across India or will Vivek’s film affect RRR’s business? Time will tell.
