The Kerala Story revolves primarily around the life of Shalini Unnikrishnan who has been converted to a Muslim woman named Fatima Ba. During her growing-up years, Ba dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, the journey of life is not as straightforward as it appears. The young and enthusiastic Ba was abducted from her home, manipulated by religious fanatics, and turned into a terrorist, which landed her in an Afghan jail.

This plotline, however, has not dwelled down well with some religious sections of society — a few of whom filed a case seeking a ban on the release of the film.

In the latest development, the Kerala High Court today refused to stay the release of the movie, The Kerala Story.

News portal Bar And Bench reported: “After watching the teaser and trailer of the movie, a division bench of Justices N Nagaresh and Sophy Thomas said that it does not contain anything against Islam or Muslims as a whole but was about Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).”

"There is no allegation against any religion. The allegation is against ISIS," the Bench remarked. "Going through the trailers of the movie, we find it does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole. None of the petitioners have watched movie," the Court noted in its order.

Senior Advocate Ravi Kadam, appearing for the producer of the movie, said that a disclaimer has been put that clearly mentions that the film is a work of fiction. "We have put a disclaimer and we have said this is a work of fiction, inspired by true stories. Supreme Court says once there is a disclaimer and film is certified (it can be released)," he said.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman on Thursday positively reacted to this upcoming film on Twitter. “Love for humanity has to be unconditional and healing," Rahman wrote as he shared a video on social media showing a Hindu couple tying the knot in a Kerala mosque. Rahman had retweeted the video and captioned it as “Here is another #KeralaStory".

Written by Suryapal Singh, Sudipto Sen, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story features actors Pranav Misshra, Adah Sharma and Yogita Bihani in pivotal roles.
