The Kerala Story, a divisive movie directed by Sudipto Sen, has already been in theatres for more than a week. The film has been making headlines since its release. Discussions and debates about the movie are still dividing people in the public and on social media. While some contend that the film offers an accurate depiction of the events taking place in Kerala, others say that its writers are spreading lies as part of a propaganda campaign against the state.

Now, Ram Gopal Varma, a well-known filmmaker, has spoken out in favour of The Kerala Story amid all of this and criticised Bollywood for its "death-like silence on the shattering success of the film." In addition, RGV predicted that the movie would linger over Bollywood like a "mysterious fog in every story discussion room and corporate house."

The filmmaker took to his social media account and said in the first tweet of a series, “We are so comfortable in telling lies to both others and ourselves that when someone goes ahead and shows the truth we get SHOCKED… That explains the DEATH like SILENCE of BOLLYWOOD on the SHATTERING SUCCESS of #KeralaStory,”

“The #KeralaStory is like a BEAUTIFUL GHOSTLY MIRROR showing the DEAD face of Main stream BOLLYWOOD to itself in all its UGLINESS.”

“The #KeralaStory will haunt like a mysterious fog in every story discussion room and every corporate house in BOLLYWOOD forever,” he pointed out, adding: “It’s difficult to learn from #KeralaStory because it’s EASY to copy a LIE but very DIFFICULT to copy TRUTH.”

After the film's trailer was released, its makers claimed that the storyline was based on the experiences of more than 32,000 Keralan women who had purportedly been radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists. This sparked a controversy.

The Kerala Story is produced, developed, and distributed by Sunshine Pictures which is owned by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Adah Sharma leads the cast along with Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani. The Kerala Story is bankrolled by Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, founded by Vipul Amrutlal Shah who is the Producer, Creative Director and the co-writer of the film, which is co-produced by Aashin A Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen.
