West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced a ban on the exhibition of Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story in West Bengal. The chief minister directed the chief secretary to stop the exhibition of the film keeping law and order in mind. According to government officials, the film’s visuals may hamper the peace and harmony in the state. The film is now banned in Kolkata and other districts.

According to news agency ANI, Mamata Banerjee told media that the film was banned to avoid any ‘incident of hatred and violence’. “West Bengal govt has decided to ban the movie The Kerala Story. This is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and to maintain peace in the state.” The chief minister further added, “What is The Kashmir Files? It is to humiliate one section. What is The Kerala Story? It is a distorted story.”

According to ANI, The Kashmir Files-producer Vipul Shah said, “If that is what she has done, we will take legal action. Whatever is possible under the provisions of law, we will fight.”

Earlier, the film was banned in Tamil Nadu also. Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government exempted tax on the film.

The Kerala Story that features Adah Sharma shows that around 32,000 Hindu and Christian women are converted. The Kerala state government refuted the claim and stated that whatever the film is depicting is a lie.
