Kane Brett Robinson aka Kano, the British rapper has returned to acting, after A Blessed Place short film, which was released in 2021. The eleven-minute documentary film serves as a passionate tribute to Jamaica, while simultaneously exploring the personal journey of Kano. It reveals how his Jamaican heritage and deep family ties played a pivotal role in the creation of his white rum brand, Duppy White.

Kano's previous renowned works

Kano is famous for his role as Sully in the 2011 series – Top Boy. It follows the life of a teenage boy named Ra'Nell, who is a good kid and loves his mom dearly. Unfortunately, his mom has been struggling with a mental illness because of some bad things that happened with his dad in the past.

After two years, Kano has returned to acting as the main lead in Netflix’s sci-fi drama – The Kitchen. Daniel Kaluuya makes his directorial debut with the film, and it's also co-directed by Kibwe Tavares. Daniel Kaluuya won three Oscars for Judas and the Black Messiah, Nope, and Get Out.

The Kitchen story

Imagine London years from now, where nobody lives in the old apartment blocks anymore. Izi and Benji, though, still call a place called ‘The Kitchen' as their home, even though nobody's supposed to live there. They just can't imagine leaving their friends and community behind, even if it means life is a bit tough. They have to figure out how to survive in this messed-up city, while surviving in their little corner of the world.

The trailer begins with a guy named Izi, getting out of jail, and starts to live in a substandard community called the Kitchen. Now he wants to leave the place and start fresh with his son, Benji. But it seems pretty tough because there are police and mean people everywhere. But Izi and Benji try to be family again and take care of each other no matter what.

Star-cast

The Kitchen stars Kano as the father Izi and Jedaiah Bannerman as his son Benji. Bannerman makes his acting debut with the film.

Release date

Netflix has finally announced that The Kitchen will arrive on the streaming platform on January 19, 2024.
