We’ve lived in anticipation of the second season of the widely popular and celebrated show The Last of Us ever since Craig Mazin’s creation hit the screens back in 2023. Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the lead, the show quickly became one of the most beloved series across the globe. Fans have been eagerly waiting for more, and after months of promotional content, we’re now just hours away from the second season premiering on JioCinema (formerly Hotstar) in India. The excitement is at an all-time high, and it’s time to plan the next seven weeks accordingly. Here’s your complete episode guide for The Last of Us Season 2.
Developed by Craig Mazin in collaboration with Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us is based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows Ellie and Joel as they face a deadly threat—one that is both physically and emotionally harrowing.
Season 2 continues the gripping narrative from the Season 1 finale. The official logline reads:
“Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The Last of Us Season 2 premieres in the West on April 13, 2025, at 9 PM PT. In India, however, new episodes will stream on Mondays at 6:30 AM IST, starting April 14, 2025, exclusively on JioCinema.
Here’s the full release calendar for India:
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel Miller and Ellie. Gabriel Luna reprises his role as Joel’s younger brother, Tommy. The new season also introduces several fresh faces:
While The Last of Us is based on the two games by Naughty Dog, discussions have emerged about expanding the universe through spinoffs and prequels. However, co-creator Craig Mazin has made it clear that he has no plans to continue beyond adapting the second game.
Speaking to Variety, Mazin said: “As far as additional source material, as a fan of The Last of Us, if Neil has more games, I would love it. But for me, as a writer and showrunner, this is my Last of Us. So this will be the last of my Last of Us, covering the events of the first and second game.I think there's always a world where you could see additional material, like how House of the Dragon thrived after the conclusion of Game of Thrones. I could certainly see myself being someone they might call for advice. But it won’t be mine to do—somebody else will be handling that.”
Interestingly, the makers have already confirmed The Last of Us Season 3, even before Season 2 has aired.
