For many years, there was an unwritten rule about dubbing in Karnataka, which meant that big-ticket films from other industries would release in their original version in the state, and, any movie, big or small, with a decent enough plot got remade in Kannada. While this has changed in the last few years, the pan-India release trend has removed any trace of this, with audiences in Karnataka increasingly urging filmmakers to ‘serve in their language’. These days, it is the absence of a Kannada-dubbed version that becomes a major talking point. Here's a look at the films that are available with Kannada audio on the major OTT platforms.

Dhanush’s 2022 release Thiruchitrambalam is a film that Challenging Star Darshan had said he enjoyed watching. The slice-of-life drama, originally in Tamil, which also stars Nithya Menen, is now available to stream with Kannada audio

King of Kotha

Dulquer Salmaan’s big-ticket Onam release, in which he played a gangster who returns to stake claim on what was rightfully his – Kotha – was not the blockbuster the makers hoped it would be. The film opened to decent reviews, but was upstaged by the action flick RDX.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s blockbuster, which had him as a retired jailer fighting to keep his family safe, after his son, a police officer, runs afoul of a criminal gang. One of the film’s major highlights was a minor cameo by Century Star Shivarajkumar.
