Nintendo has finally eased the sore hearts of Zelda fans by announcing a live-action film of the renowned video game The Legend of Zelda. With more than 20 games in the main series since its inception in 1986, The Legend of Zelda’s timeline spans over thousands of years. The game franchise is such a hit, that its latest 2023 sequel, Tears of the Kingdom sold more than ten million copies in the first three days.
The Legend of Zelda is a fantasy game that tells the story of the elfish, young warrior Link, who must rescue the princess of Hyrule, Zelda, and save her kingdom. The only way to help the heroic princess is by defeating the evil Ganon, who seeks to collect the three pieces of the Triforce to gain ultimate power.
The Legend of Zelda live-action film is going to be produced by creator Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo and Avi Arad of Arad Productions, with Nintendo financing more than half of the project and Sony taking care of worldwide theatrical distribution. The project will be helmed by director Wes Ball, who is known for directing The Maze Runner franchise.
Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed via Nintendo’s Japanese account on X, formerly Twitter, “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega films.”
He continued, “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started with the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
