For Disney fans that grew up watching Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, the news that the live action version of the film was in the works definitely stirred up a lot of excitement. The upcoming film will see Halle Bailey take on the role of the titular protagonist Ariel, a young mermaid who dreams of being a part of the human world. The first teaser, with its realistic and breathtaking visuals, had offered a captivating look into Ariel’s world, and Halle’s enchanting vocals and portrayal of the character. The makers recently unveiled a new teaser of the film, which gives viewers the first glimpses of not only Prince Eric but also the wicked Ursula.

The new teaser offers more glimpses into Ariel’s life under the sea, with other merfolk and her delightful friends under the big blue sea. The short video also gives a glimpse of Jonah Hauer-King as Ariel’s love Prince Eric, as the two lean in for a kiss.

But the biggest surprise comes at the end of the teaser. As Ariel’s song ends, viewers hear a booming cackle, and we see a glimpse of Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, the sea witch, her long tentacles covering most of her face.

In addition to Halle, Jonah and Melissa, the upcoming film also features Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina and winner Javier Bardem as King Triton. The Little Mermaid is directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. The film features original songs written by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The original Disney film was based on the short story of the same name written by Hans Christian Andersen.

The Little Mermaid will be released in theatres on May 26, 2023.
