The Lost Daughter is slated for a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 17. It will start streaming on Netflix from December 31 onwards. The film had its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in September.
What is The Lost Daughter about?
The Lost Daughter is a psychological drama based on Elena Ferrante’s 2008 novel of the same name. The film revolves around the story of a woman, Leda, who while on a beach vacation encounters a young mother and her family. On seeing the family, the solitary Leda starts to reminisce about her daughters and her experience as a young mother.
The memories cause her to fall into an unsettling spiral of difficult memories and emotions, and her dredged up recollections even start to make her take it out on the people around her.
