Ever since the time ‘The Kerala Story’ got announced, the film has been making news for many reasons, most of them being controversial and also ‘challenging’. Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film is being readied for a theatrical release on May 5. Initially, when the makers of the film launched their film’s trailer on YouTube, this is what they had written in the description. ‘The Kerala Story’- Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32,000 females in Kerala’. This triggered a protest of sorts from almost everywhere challenging the claims of the film’s makers.

The latest update about the film’s trailer is that the makers of the film have now changed the description section of the YouTube (where the film’s trailer is being played) to ‘A compilation of true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala... Thousands of innocent women have been systematically converted, radicalised, and their lives destroyed..."

A couple of days earlier, the film’s leading lady Adah Sharma trook to social media and posted this, “Many seniors persons in high posts have commented on #TheKeralaStory after watching the 2 minute trailer . My parents have always asked me to respect my elders so with due respect to all of them i hope they can take 2 hrs out of their busy schedule and watch the movie. I'm sure they will see that we haven't shown Kerala in any derogatory light. Jai hind”.

For the unversed, after the makers of ‘The Kerala Story’ made such a strong claim in the description section this got translated into a huge uproar and unrest amongst many. The CPM-led LDF and opposition UDF immediately demanded a ban on the screening of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’. This was then followed by ‘The Muslim Youth League’ of the ‘Indian Union Muslim League’, announcing a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone who showed the evidence of 32,000 girls becoming members of the Islamic State, a claim which was made by the film’s makers in the description.

This was then followed by Pratheesh Viswanath (founder of ‘Hindu Seva Kendra’), who offered Rs. 10 crore to anyone who proved that no one from Kerala had gone to Syria to join IS. Post that, actor and lawyer C Shukkur took to social media and offered Rs. 11 lakhs to the person who could give the names of the 32 women from Kerala who were converted and then, had joined IS. After that, a blogger named K Nazeer Hussain took to social media and offered to pay Rs. 10 lakhs if anyone could prove that any woman was converted and forced to join IS.

Attempts to establish contacts with Vipul Shah proved futile. Besides the 'Commando 3' actress Adah Sharma, ‘The Kerala Story’ also stars ogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani. Watch this space for developments.
