When Star Wars dived into spin-offs from various events from the franchise, fans of the Star Wars universe got a glimpse of various perspectives. While some worked, most were just above average. Among those that worked, was The Mandalorian, which introduced the cuter version of Yoda, a baby Yoda called Grogu. Along with The Mandalorian, Grogu won hearts, and the two are now set for the big screens. That's right, the makers have adapted the characters into a film, which is called The Mandalorian and Grogu. Before its release, here's everything you wanted to know about the movie...
The Mandalorian and Grogu was announced at the closed event, Disney D 23. The movie, helmed by Jon Favreau himself, is scheduled for May 22, 2026 release (in the US). Thus, it is speculated that the first promo of the movie will also be out around April 2026 and not before that.
The Mandalorian and Grogu plays a massive role in bringing a close between the Imperial Remnant's rule and the conflict we will witness in Dave Filoni's (one of the directors of The Mandalorian series) upcoming film, New Republic. As the title suggests, a lot of worlds, especially the Rebels, meet the world of The Mandalorian.
The first glimpse of the film shows us Mando with the Rebel, Zeb Orrelios. The Razor Crest is back as well, despite being destroyed in The Mandalorian season 2.
Din seems to have discovered the sixth planet, Hoth, and was seen on a solo adventure there. Grogu, on the other hand, has to deal with Imperial mouse droids as well as Snow Troopers. The Walkers are back too, and they are going to play an important role in where the movie will be heading. In the final scene, one can spot Grogu with 2 Anzellans (from The Mandalorian season 3). All of this hints at Grogu being trapped by the Imperials, and The Mandalorian marching towards rescuing his little buddy.
The Mandalorian was first introduced to fill the gaps between the rise of the First Order and how Emperor Palpatine returned. On the show (3 seasons out), Pedro Pascal plays the role of Din Djarin aka The Mandalorian. He has however revealed his face just once in the entire series. The Mandalorian is an orphan who got adopted into the Mandalorian culture and trained as a warrior, who became a bounty hunter to earn a living. The events of The Mandalorian take place after Return of the Jedi, and before The Force Awakens. The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are inter-connected for obvious reasons.
Often referred to as Baby Yoda (but is obviously different), Grogu is a Force-sensitive member. He was abandoned and left on his own. However, being the one with the Force, Grogu, who was The Mandalorian's target, became his best friend. Grogu and The Mandalorian have gone on various adventures, and the film will just be another example of their strong bonding and how they stand up for one another through thick and thin.
