Amidst many speculations, Mollywood’s most-anticipated epic historical war film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is gearing up for a digital release. Even though an official announcement is yet to be out, the Mohanlal-Priyadarshan movie will be released on Amazon Prime Video, according to Manoramaonline report.

The movie was initially slated to be released on March 26, 2020, which was postponed due to the pandemic induced lockdown. The film has been making many headlines, as the digital release was strongly resisted by many exhibitors and even the Kerala Culture Minister. Producer Antony Perumbavoor had resigned from FEUOK (The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala), after failing in discussions with various theatre owners regarding the release.

However, the news about the OTT release was first broken by Antony Perumbavoor, and hinted about the deal with Amazon Prime Video. The decision has knocked out the theatre owners, who were expecting the much hyped movie to hit big screens, as they are already going through bad times.

Meanwhile, Marakkar revolves around the life of the famous naval chieftain of the Zamorin of Calicut, Kunjali Marakkar, who is popular for defending the Malabar coast against Portuguese invasion. Mollywood’s superstar Mohanlal will be essaying the role of the naval hero, while the movie also features a stellar cast including Manju Warrier, Prabhu, Keerthy Suresh, Mukesh, SIddique, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, and a lot of Chinese and British actors. Under the production banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie is helmed by Priyadarshan.

The film has won three awards at the 67th National Film Awards held in New Delhi on October 25, including Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects and Best Costume.
