Netflix has shared the first look of Jennifer Lopez in upcoming action film The Mother, directed by Niki Caro of Mulan-fame.

In one still the actor-director duo can be seen behind-the-scenes deep in discussion, while in the other Lopez looks into the distance with a steely determination on her face.

The film will see Lopez play an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect daughter she had once given away. However, on her tail are two men played by actors Garcia Bernal and Paul Raci.

Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Yvonne Senat Jones, and Lucy Paez are also part of the cast.

Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green has written the screenplay with revisions by Straight Outta Compton‘s Andrea Berloff.

The Mother is produced by Lopez's Nuyorican Productions alongside Vertigo Entertainment. According to Deadline, this film is among the first of the many projects to release under Nuyorican and Netflix's new creative partnership.

Lopez was last seen in 2019's film Hustlers with Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lilli Reinhart, Lizzo, and Cardi B, which was based on Jessica Pressler's 2015 article "The Hustlers at Scores" for New York magazine.

She will next feature in Marry Me alongside Owen Wilson and Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel.
