Over Mother's Day weekend, Netflix will release the action film The Mother, starring Jennifer Lopez as an assassin and a mother.

The worldwide singer, dancer, and actor plays a former murderer in the just-released trailer who left her previous life and family behind to protect her now 12-year-old daughter. The FBI made a deal with Lopez, according to the trailer, after three agents were slain and two dangerous guys were still at large. Years later, when her daughter is abducted, Lopez's character must emerge from hiding and reenter her life in order to save her. She teaches her daughter how to endure in the face of peril while she tortures, shoots, stabs, and headbutts the kidnappers' men.

In the trailer, Lopez's comment, "I'm a killer, but I'm also a mother," sums up the movie in a single sentence.

Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal are among the cast members. The actual tagline of the film talks about how, while evading dangerous men, a formidable female assassin emerges from hiding to save the daughter she abandoned years earlier.

Misha Green, Andrea Berloff, and Peter Craig collaborated on the script, with Green providing the narrative. Lopez, Green, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, and Marc Evans are among the producers. The producing executive is Molly Allen.

Interestingly, The Mother marks the performer's return to the thriller genre after Enough, which released in 2002. She has been a part of several popular films such as Selena, The Cell, The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, and Halftime. Lopez was last seen in Shotgun Wedding opposite Josh Duhamel, which she also co-produced.

On May 12, The Mother will be available on Netflix, just in time to watch with any moms who enjoy J.Lo or hard-core action flicks.
