The Vikings are set to ride once again, in the upcoming historical thriller, The Northman. The trailer for the same was unveiled recently and it signals a story of loss, grief and revenge.
The trailer opens in a harsh winter landscape, 10th Century Iceland, ruled by a noble Viking king, loved by his people and adored by his family. But in a tragic turn of events, the king is murdered by a man named Fjölnir and the killing is witnessed by the young prince. In his shock and grief, he runs away from the place determined to avenge the death of his father.
Years pass and hardened by rough living, the boy grows up to be a strong and savage warrior whose desire for revenge grows stronger with each day. He is joined in his quest by a mysterious and cunning woman, whose shrewdness combined with the man’s strength spells doom for all those who dare cross them.
The Northman is directed by Robert Eggers, popular for helming the critically acclaimed horror dramas, The Witch (2015) and The Lighthouse (2019). He has also written the script for the upcoming film, along with Sjón.
The upcoming film stars Alexander Skarsgård as the Viking prince out for revenge. He shares the screen with an ensemble cast including Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk,Kate Dickie, Murray McArthur, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson and Willem Dafoe. While Skarsgård and Kidman had previously collaborated on Big Little Lies, Taylor-Joy and Dafoe had been a part of the director’s aforementioned films.
The Northman is slated to be released in theatres on April 22, 2022.
