The highly anticipated action sequel The Old Guard 2 will premiere on July 2, 2025, on Netflix. The film will feature new characters and the reunion of the cast from the 2020 original, taking the plot to an even more perilous chapter. The sequel, which is directed by Victoria Mahoney, follows the story of Andy (Charlize Theron) and her immortal squad six months after the events of the first film. They encounter new alliances, personal reckonings, and a growing global threat.
Title | The Old Guard 2 |
Streaming Platform | Netflix |
OTT Release Date | July 2, 2025 |
Director | Victoria Mahoney |
Lead Cast | Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Henry Golding, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Veronica Van, Chiwetel Ejiofor |
The plot follows Andy, who has become mortal, as she meets up with her immortal friends Nile, Joe, Nicky, and James Copley, played by KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, respectively. Veronica Van, formerly known as Veronica Ngô, portrays Quynh, who has returned to seek revenge following her escape from a 500-year imprisonment at the ocean's bottom. The team must now confront her. The most heartbreaking part of her prolonged submersion, according to Van, who spoke with Netflix's Tudum, was witnessing how everyone else had moved on. The actor added that the multitude of emotions she carries—missing, loving, yearning, hate, and betrayal—accompanies her 500-year return to seek Andy.
Theron, who also serves as the film's producer, expressed great celebration for the action sequences they successfully executed in the first Old Guard film. She adds that the sequel will offer even more action. Therefore, we began by asking, "How can we raise that bar?"
Henry Golding plays Tuah, keeper of everlasting history, and Uma Thurman is Discord, an ancient immortal. According to Thurman, her character is "shrouded in mystery" and, unlike the movie's protagonist Andy, she's not a great fan of humanity.
According to Golding, his character was named 'Tuah', which means 'luck' in Malaysian. Tuah plays a pivotal role in the group's quest to comprehend their past and destiny.
Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker are back for the sequel as writers. Rucka remarked that some very significant changes to the status quo were introduced at the end of the first film. Nile has joined the group and become immortal, Andy's mortality has inexplicably departed her, and Booker has been punished for his transgressions by being thrown into exile.
Nile is the rookie in the first film, KiKi Layne says as she muses on his development. She is really inquisitive and clearly lacks any knowledge. In the sequel, she finally finds her spot on the squad.
Director Victoria Mahoney, who is making her feature debut, set out to give the sequel a new visual vocabulary. She shared that every time they left the house to scout, she insisted on avoiding going to spots where she had been a spectator in a bunch of her favourite films. She pushed herself to the limit in pursuit of the unexpected.
Theron also said that there's something for everyone in this movie: fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels, and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations, and a global cast of superstars.
On July 2, 2025, The Old Guard 2 will be available to stream on Netflix across the globe.
