The Residence is a new murder mystery series, featuring Uzo Aduba as a Metropolitan Police Department detective investigating a high-profile murder. The 8-episode show, produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, is set in the White House, with an investigation spanning across 132 rooms and 157 possible suspects.
A trailer for the show dropped on January 30 and details when and where to expect the show. All 8 episodes of The Residence will drop on Netflix on March 20, it was revealed at the end of the trailer. As for the show, it follows Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, a detective for the Metropolitan Police Department, who is called in to investigate the circumstances behind the “dead body in the third floor of the White House”. “Mr President, this house needs to be treated like a crime scene,” she says, as she tries to figure out who’s behind the crime.
The official logline of the show reads, “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.” As the investigation goes on, Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park) of the FBI, is tasked with partnering with Cupp, and interpersonal conflicts between 157 personnel of the residence start to unfold.
