Fox’s hit medical drama The Resident, which wound up its fifth season in May this year, is already ready for its next outing. The show, which follows a bunch of medical professionals at Chastain Memorial Hospital, the medical dramas that come up in the course of their day-to-day life, and their relationship dynamics, is returning for a sixth season on September 20. In India, the show will stream on Disney+Hotstar.
According to the official description of the season opener, the episode will focus on Padma’s pregnancy taking a dangerous turn, and the staff at Chastain Memorial rallying around to save her babies. Conrad’s love life and Devon’s clinical trials will also be under the spotlight.
In season 5, Padma, Dr Devi’s sister, had got Dr Austin to be the sperm donor and help her realize her dream of becoming a mother, for which Devi had donated her eggs. While this had caused some tension between Devi and Devon, as the latter wanted to have kids with her at some point, which she wasn’t okay with, they had reconciled towards the end of the season. Also, years after losing his wife Nic Nevin, Conrad finally opened up to the possibility of new love with new joinee Dr Cade.
The Resident’s massive ensemble cast includes Matt Czuchry, Manish Dayal, Bruce Greenwood, Jessica Lucas, Jane Leeves, Malcom-Jamal Warner, Anuja Joshi, Tasso Feldman, Denitra Isler, Jessica Miesel, with recurring characters played by Aneesha Joshi, Glenn Morshower, Michael Hogan, Corbin Bernsen, among others.
Shaunette Renee Wilson, who appeared in three seasons of the show was among the first to leave, followed by Emily VanCamp, who moved on after welcoming her first child. Season 5 welcomed new cast members Kaley Ronayne and Anrew McCarthy.
