The Santa Clauses, a successful series rendition of The Santa Clause franchise, has released the first two episodes of its second season on November 8. New episodes shall be dropped on Disney+hotstar weekly, on Wednesdays. After a highly successful run in the first season, season 2 promises no less, guaranteeing an intriguing insight into Santa Claus mythology as well as good ol’ Christmas magic.
Season 1 of The Santa Clauses had ended with Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) returning to the North Pole to relieve his replacement cum season antagonist Simon Choksi from the role of Santa. However, the idea of retirement is still thriving in his mind as the new season shall see him pick his son Cal (Austin Kane) as his successor.
But it is not so easy to replace Father Christmas without the approval of the Santa coat, as well as the likes of Cupid and Tooth Fairy. While Scott wants to keep the inheritance familial, he only has eyes for Cal, and not his blooming daughter Sandra (Elizabeth Allen-Dick), who is entrusted with the reindeer only.
Despite Cal being excited about North Pole and taking care of Christmas, he does have his distractions, like his girlfriend Riley. Also, his struggles with basic Santa training and Christmas magic does show that favoritism has no place in the business.
Sandra on the other hand, is a kind-hearted girl who is more in tune with Christmas than Cal ever was. However, her feelings of being overlooked and loneliness are taken care of by La Befana, the sweet, Italian-folklore Christmas Witch, especially in Season 2 when Sandra starts evolving magically.
The new season also introduces an ancient, villainous version of St. Nick, known as Magnus Antas, or the Mad Santa (Eric Stonestreet). He had previously been turned into a nutcracker and banished from North Pole by the elves, since he had turned power-hungry and neurotic, and gone on a rampage against humans.
The Head Elf Betty setting off on a mandatory Kribble Krabble (a leave of absence from the North Pole into the real world) doesn’t help the North Pole elves, as they have kept the Mad Santa a secret from Scott. With Noel temporarily in charge of the North Pole elves, the future seems grim unless secrets are revealed, and Christmas is saved from the clutches of the Mad Santa.
