The world of OTT has been overflowing with options for viewers who want content to consume at any point of the day at their convenience. Streamers have been putting their best foot forward to make their shows and movies the highlight of the month. For example, the highlights of July in India have been Mirzapur on Prime Video and Barzakh on Zee5. Meanwhile, the West is busy obsessing over the second season of a much-loved show, which is now set to enter the Indian market as well. We are talking about The Serpent Queen Season 2. This new season brings an interesting twist as Queen Elizabeth I enters the show. Samantha Morton has shared insights about the changes in trajectory and the drama and intrigue it brings with it.

Samantha Morton on The Serpent Queen Season 2

For the uninitiated, The Serpent Queen Season 2 picks up years after Charles IX is crowned as the King of France. Season 2 premiered on Starz in the West on July 12 with two episodes that saw Catherine de Medici striving to maintain control of the country while balancing her family life. However, the entry of Elizabeth I of London signals impending danger. Read on to know everything you should about it.

In an interview with Screenrant, Samantha Morton spoke about how Queen Elizabeth I’s entry in The Serpent Queen Season 2 changed everything for the show. When asked if we discover whether Catherine has some psychic powers or abilities, Samantha explained that if people love the show, they will research Catherine and everything about her life. According to Samantha, the show is based on a lot of truth. She also emphasized how Catherine would bring influences from everywhere. It is not just about talking to religious people; she would listen to everybody and take what suited her best.

She went on to draw parallels between then and now. She says, that even today, we are encouraged by society. “There's a wellness culture that we have globally now by going back to traditional methods of healing. There was a time in history when all midwives were burned at the stake because they just knew about herbalism. And then you had to help a woman give birth, but, 'Oh, my goodness. No. You're a witch.'” she said.

The Serpent Queen Season 2 star Samantha Morton added, “I think that the show looks into those aspects of her as a powerful woman in that way. It's just common sense, really. Today we have things where we say, 'I've got a gut instinct about this.' We're all thinking about drinking kombucha and apple cider vinegar, because we want to take care of our gut, because the gut is the second brain, apparently. But these people back in history, knew all of this. They knew if you eat that mushroom, you're gonna go down that road. It's the Alice in Wonderland. What the show does so brilliantly is bring in that element of mystery and intrigue and danger.”
