Don, directed by Cibi Chakravarthi, will be available on Netflix, by June 10 (tentatively). However, the official date hasn't been confirmed yet. This means the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer will be streaming on Netflix, after a four-week run in theatres. According to multiple reports, Don remains one of the top grossers at the box office. The film, notably, minted Rs 14 crore, on its release day. (May 13). The Sivakarthikeyan film faces stiff competition from Mahesh Babu's Sarkaru Vaari Paata, KGF 2 and Vignesh Shivn's Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal.
On the second day, Don made Rs 21 crore, in total. Trade pundits claim the film will cross the Rs 34 crore-mark, by the end of Monday.
Initially, Don was to hit screens on March 25 but was eventually postponed. Billed as a youthful entertainer, set in a college backdrop, the film features Sivakarthikeyan as a college student for the first time in his acting career.
The film has music by Anirudh Ravichandar, who has previously collaborated with Sivakarthikeyan on films like Ethir Neechal, Maan Karate, Remo, and Doctor.
Cibi told Silverscreen, “I had written the initial draft of Don in 2013 intending to make a feature film. But first, I helmed a pilot project named Bit, centred around a student-teacher bond taken from the story. Then, I went on to assist Atlee on Mersal. I kept working on it as and when I got the time, and eventually, the film took off in 2021.”
Don's review on OTTplay read, "Every actor, even in minor roles, including the mother character of Sivakarthikeyan, deserves applause for etching to perfection a creator’s vision. However, three persons deserve nothing short of a standing ovation—Sivakarthikeyan, Samuthirakani and SJ Suryah—in that order. Cibi Chakravarthi has a knack for keeping the audience engaged, even when telling stories that we have seen many times before on-screen. The film takes on severely-emotional tangents towards the end, but the director gets the metre right—in the packaging and the pacing."
Bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Sivakarthikeyan Productions, the film features Priyanka Arul Mohan, SJ Suryah, Samuthirakani, and Soori in important roles.
Don went on floors in February 2021. The film was shot across Chennai, Coimbatore, Pollachi and Kerala.
