Amazon Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, like most teenage dramas, didn’t earn fabulous reviews from critics at the time of its release, but turned out to be one of the most widely watched shows on OTT. The web series was adapted from Jenny Han’s bestseller book revolving around a love triangle among three teenagers Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad. The second season of the show arrived earlier this year.
Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad) and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) played pivotal roles in the show. While the first season revolved around the confusion in the love lives of its leads, the second season had them coming to terms with a personal tragedy that further complicates their relationships. After the success of both seasons, Amazon Prime Video renewed it for a third season too.
The second season of the show ended with Belly finally choosing Jeremiah over Conrad, given the many occasions the former had been there for her in the need of the hour. Early reports suggested that the third season of the show would be arriving by summer 2024, which doesn’t look possible currently, owing to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The shoot officially can’t take off in this phase.
The wait has just gotten longer for the show’s fans. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is now expected to arrive in the final quarter of 2024 instead. The third season of the show is an adaptation of the book We'll Always Have Summer, where Belly continues to experience conflicts in her relationship. The premise suggests that the road ahead is not going to be easy with Conrad or Jeremiah.
Jenny Han in recent media interactions promised that the show will stay true to the spirit of the book, but the creators will be looking forward to surprising the audiences as well. The other notable characters in the series are played by Sean Kaufman (Steven), Rain Spencer (Taylor), Jackie Chung (Laurel).
