The Trial, an interrogation thriller based on the mysterious death of a man on his wedding anniversary, brought together several new faces Spandana Palli, Yugram and Vamsi Kotu. The film was written and directed by Raam Ganni while Smriti Sagi, Srinivas K Naidu bankrolled it under SS Films and Commonman Productions. The thriller released in select theatres on November 24.
After a brief theatrical run, The Trial is now out on OTT. Leading streaming platform Amazon Prime Video has bagged the post-theatrical rights of the thriller for a decent price and premiered the film today. While the film was to be a direct digital release initially, the streamer revised the deal and asked the makers to ensure a theatrical release before the OTT premiere.

The story takes off when Ajay (Yug Ram), a software engineer by profession, in a bid to celebrate his wedding anniversary in style, sets up a dream date with his wife Rupa (Spandana Pilli), a police officer. However, under mysterious circumstances, Ajay falls off the terrace. While it’s termed an accident initially, CI Rajeev (Vamsi Kotu) re-opens the case and all hell breaks loose.
Giving the film a favourable review, OTTplay.com's critic said The Trial was an honest attempt by a young team, praising director Raam Ganni’s crisp narration and interesting thrills. While claiming that the tale lacks a strong motive, the thrills and crisp runtime make up for it, he added, calling it a decent watch. Shrie Saikumaar Daara cranked the camera for the film.
Saravana Vasudevan scored the music and Srikanth Patnaik R was the editor. Vijay was the art director. The director Raam Ganni, before his film debut, was a jailor and utilised many real-life incidents and gave it a cinematic appeal with the treatment in The Trial. One hopes The Trial reaches out to a wider audience globally through the reach of a powerhouse like Amazon Prime Video.
