R Madhavan is one of the very few Indian actors who have made a place for themselves in Bollywood and South Indian film industries. Although Madhavan appeared in several Hindi TV shows such as Yule Love Story, Banegi Apni Baat, Kabhie Kabhie, and Saaya in the 90s, his breakthrough was Mani Ratnam’s 2000 Tamil film Alaipayuthey.

Madhavan would later star in critically acclaimed Tamil films such as Kannathil Muthamittal, Run, Anbe Sivam, Aaytha Ezhuthu, Vettai, and Vikram Vedha. He made his Hindi debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, which was a remake of his Tamil film Minnale. His notable Hindi works include the 2006 award-winning film Rang De Basanti where he played an Indian Air Force pilot and the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 3 Idiots wherein he essayed the role of an engineering student who dreams of becoming a wildlife photographer.

His directorial debut Rocketry, which revolves around the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, is expected to release on July 1. Madhavan plays Narayanan in the film.
