Sakkath Studio Creative Team, the makers of the Kannada OTT production Honeymoon, wouldn't have exactly expected their show to have such a unique yet unfortunate fate. The Kannada show starring Nagabhushana, Sanjana Anand and Apoorva Bharadwaj, revolving around the travails of a newlywed couple and their unplanned honeymoon, couldn't find takers from any major OTT platforms for a long time in 2020. The presence of a known name like director Pawan Kumar (who acted in the show) and Sanjana Anand who made a mark in a handful of Kannada films too couldn't be of much help.
However, come November 2020, team Honeymoon miraculously found some hope from the Telugu OTT platform aha. aha, which was looking to deliver new Telugu content to its subscribers week after week in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, was impressed by Honeymoon and eventually dubbed it into Telugu (released on November 27, 2020). Nearly 8 months post the Telugu release of Honeymoon, the original version of the show hasn't interested any OTT platform yet, for reasons best known to the streamers.
It's a known fact that Kannada is yet to make major headway in terms of OTT content, despite a few films having opted for direct-to-OTT releases in the past few months. The major OTT platforms, Amazon Prime and Netflix, haven't shown great interest in procuring original Kannada content either. Interestingly, one Kannada-only OTT platform named Katte made its way into the market earlier this month. One only hopes many more homegrown platforms like Katte could usher in a turnaround.
