Fans have been waiting for Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan to hit silver screens for quite a while now. The film’s release has been a long time coming, witnessing several delays for a number of reasons. But it seems that the makers have finally zoned in on a release date for the film.

Devgn announced the film’s new release date on his official Twitter handle. The actor’s tweet read “Experience the true story of an unknown hero, Syed Abdul Rahim who brought glory to India. #Maidaan releasing on 17th February, 2023”.

Check out Devgn’s post below:

The upcoming sports drama film will revolve around the true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, an Indian football coach who had been the manager of the Indian national team. Under Rahim’s coaching, the country’s national football team won gold at two Asian Games and had also reached the semi-finals of the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

Maidaan had gone on floors back in 2019, witnessing a number of delays due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The delays in the film’s production were affected in part due to the rebuilding of the film’s sets at different points of time, both due to the pandemic as well as due to damages caused by cyclone Tauktae.

In addition to Devgn, the upcoming film will also feature Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh in pivotal roles as well. The film is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of ‘Badhai Ho’ fame, and produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta. The film’s screenplay and dialogues were penned by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah.

Catch Maidaan in theatres on February 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, Devgn is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming films such as Abhishek Pathak’s Drishyam 2, Dharmendra Sharma’s Bholaa and Indra Kumar’s Thank God.
