As we are now settling into the groove of this new year, we are looking forward to everything that the year has to offer. While Marvel Studios, DCU, and Star Wars continue to make news, there is one thing that is a silent winner and is preparing for a spin-off show due this February. The frenzy of The Walking Dead franchise is about to return as the spin-off show The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live hits the streaming scene next month. As many of us are curious to know what the new project will delve into and what it has in store for us, the show has achieved a feat and become the most expensive zombie show ever made.

What is this budget chaos?

According to the latest numbers circulating on the internet, we have learned that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has become the most expensive The Walking Dead property ever. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has mentioned that the latest addition to the franchise has been made at a budget of $82 million. This means each episode of the show has cost something around $13.7 million to make. This number has broken the record of The Walking Dead: Dead City which was made at $72 million, with each episode costing $12 million.

You might wonder why this number is so significant. Firstly, it is a television show, and the numbers there are never so huge. Secondly, one episode of The Ones Who Live is made at the cost of four episodes of the original series. The original The Walking Dead was made at a cost of $3.4 million per episode when it started. The number was brought down to $2.75 million in the latter seasons. Now you know the math. This means a lot has been invested in this spin-off.

But what led to a massive hike in budget?

While there are shows made at crazier budgets than this one, what shocks is the sudden rise in the production cost. This could simply be because of the inflation that has led to a monstrous rise in the cost of production. Then there is also promotions, marketing, and much more. Add to this, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live stars some of the most prominent names. Their salaries have also skyrocketed, adding up to the complete budget.

What is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live about?

Taking ahead the story of The Walking Dead from the time Michonne drifted from the original series to find her lover Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live explores their world as Rick is stuck in another war between the living and the dead. The show is created by Scott M Gimple and Danai Gurira and stars Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Pollyanna McIntosh, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Terry O'Quinn, and an ensemble cast.
