Though there was a time in Hollywood where stories made were not very inclusive, Korean-American actor Daniel Henney feels it has changed now. Henney, who plays the role of Lan in the recent Amazon Prime Video web series The Wheel of Time, says that a dramatic change has happened in the industry during the last decade.
In a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the actor opened up about the shift in the focus of Hollywood. He thinks the doors have opened with regards to the opportunities for actors from every background. He also added that he now feels the industry is growing.
Henney thinks that this change has also paved the way for an increase in responsibility for actors of colour in the West. He happens to have talked to many Asian actors, and have asked them to take advantage of the situation by doing their homework and being skilled in their craft.
The actor entered the field as a model, and eventually made it big in the Korean entertainment scene with the 2005 comedy My Lovely Sam Soon. Soon, he got his big Hollywood break with X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and later went on to do more big projects like Big Hero 6 (2014) and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (2016).
He was recently seen in the culturally diverse web series The Wheel of Time, which is an evidence for his selective projects that help him stand against stereotypes. He also added that the show has a lot of relevance during the current times.
Based on Robert Jordan’s novel series of the same name, The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, a member of a powerful women's organisation who can use magic. The Amazon Prime Video series progresses as she takes a group on a journey around the world, believing one of them to be having some special powers.
