Sports movies or biopics on sportspersons have always succeeded in inspiring viewers and affirmed the fact that talent and hard work pay rich dividends. 

From Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom to Sushant Singh Rajput's MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, over the past few years, sports films have been a rage in India and the stories of its protagonists show their physical and mental fortitude to reach their goal despite the hurdles. 

Here are some of the upcoming sports films and shows that you should look out for:

Saina (Amazon Prime Video)

Directed by Amole Gupte, Saina is based on the life of shuttler Saina Nehwal. Parineeti Chopra plays the badminton star along with Manav Kaul, Eshan Naqvi and Meghna Malik in the movie that focuses on her journey to become the country’s top player. Saina is available to stream on the OTT platform from April 23.

Last Chance U: Basketball (Netflix)

Last Chance U: Basketball, which released on Netflix in March, follows the story of a basketball coach who puts his faith in the young men, whom he wants to help achieve their potential in college basketball and the prospect for a bright future. The show features eight gripping episodes as the basketball players work towards the goal.

Toofaan (Amazon Prime Video)

Directed by National Award-winner Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and starring Farhan Akhtar as a national-level boxer, Toofaan is the second sports drama of this duo after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Toofaan, which is said to be an inspirational story of an underdog, will release on Amazon Prime on May 21.

A1 Express (SunNxt)

A1 Express is a Telugu sports drama film, based on the 2019 film Natpe Thunai. Starring Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi, the film revolves around a former hockey player, who finds his purpose in life after returning to the hockey field. The movie also sheds light on corruption and nepotism in sports. While its release date is not yet finalised, SunNxt has acquired the digital rights of the film that is expected to release soon. 

Kho Kho (OTT to be revealed soon)

Helmed by award-winning filmmaker Rahul Riji Nair, Kho Kho is a sports drama starring Rajisha Vijayan. The Malayalam film has Vijayan playing a former athlete who becomes a kho kho coach in a girls’ high school. Mamitha Baiju plays the captain of the team in this film featuring a host of real-life kho kho players.
