Due to higher ticket prices, even big films are struggling to attract audiences to theaters. Despite featuring prominent stars, if a film flops, it finds little traction at the box office. However, a growing trend shows that these films are finding success when they land on OTT platforms.
A recent example of this trend includes the Gangs of Godavari and Mr. Bachchan. Both films, starring Ravi Teja and Vishwak Sen in lead roles, were heavily criticized by both critics and audiences during their theatrical runs. However, Netflix acquired the streaming rights to these films for a hefty price and began streaming them in November.

According to a source close to Netflix, both films have performed exceptionally well on the platform, collectively clocking over 150 million streaming minutes. Mr. Bachchan remained a trending title on Netflix until newer releases like Aamran and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video debuted.
This highlights that even box-office failures can find a second life on OTT platforms. Another Telugu release, Bhale Unnadu, which was a disaster at the box office, has been trending on ETV Win for the past few weeks.
With ticket prices soaring and the overall cost for families to watch films in theaters—including miscellaneous expenses—becoming prohibitively high, audiences are increasingly opting to watch big-budget flops in the comfort of their homes. This shift in consumer behavior is one reason OTT platforms are willing to invest heavily in such films, as they generate significant revenue through increased subscriptions.
Gangs of Godavari, featuring Vishwak Sen and Neha Sshetty in lead roles, was directed by Krishna Chaitanya. Meanwhile, Mr. Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar, is a remake of the Hindi hit Raid. Both films, made on massive budgets, were available on Netflix within a month of their theatrical releases. Stay tuned for more updates on Netflix and their upcoming projects.
