Here's an actor in Telugu cinema who has earned credibility in the industry the hard way, sans any Godfathers, putting his blood and sweat into his work project after project, even if it took him a decade to enjoy the stature he has today. We're talking about Satyadev Kancharana. From a brief role in Mr Perfect in 2011 to a stage where he's doing a minimum of four projects a year across various mediums and languages, he's come a long way. After a flurry of digital releases like Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya, Guvva Gorinka, Locked, 47 Days and Pitta Kathalu, the actor's next, Thimmarusu, will hit theatres on July 30. RRR actor Jr. NTR released the film's trailer on Monday.

Starring Satyadev, Ankith Koyya, Priyanka Jawalkar, Jhansi, Brahmaji and Ajay in key roles, Thimmarusu is a part-courtroom drama and part-crime thriller, if we go by the riveting trailer. Satyadev plays advocate Ramachandra, who discoveres murkier truths surrounding an eight-year-old case revolving around the death of a cab driver. He faces constant opposition, threats from various quarters to give up on the case, but Ramachandra proves to be a man of principles and won't budge at any cost. Will the advocate succeed in his pursuits? Brahmaji plays Satyadev's on-screen associate, while Priyanka Jawalkar is cast as the lead character's love interest.

The trailer hints at a film with a fine balance of realism and commercial appeal. The mythological references to the lawyer's character Ramachandra and another character who calls himself a modern-day Vaali add to its intrigue. There's energising dialogue-baazi with lines like 'Nuvvu kodithe sound vastundemo. Lawyer kodithe life antha resound-e.' Sharan Koppishetty, who helmed Kirrak Party and a web show The Grill in the past, has directed the film which has music by Sricharan Pakala. It's heartening to finally see the theatres bouncing back to action with the work of a familiar actor like Satyadev. Satyadev, meanwhile, will commence shoot for the second season of his OTT show on aha, Locked, soon.
