Dharmendra is making his debut in a web series with the period drama Taj: Divided by Blood. He plays the pivotal role of Sufi saint Salim Chishti in the show, and the producers Abhimanyu Singh and Roopali Singh recently revealed how the actor got on board.
Salim Chishti was a Sufi saint during the Mughal Empire in India. He was close to emperor Akbar and prayed for a male heir upon Akbar's request. Akbar went on to have three sons.
Revealing about how the creators of the show convinced Dharmendra to be a part of the series, Abhimanyu Singh said, "Dharam ji is a great poet and has extensively studied Salim. He was quite excited to essay the character and was very well-versed in the history and poetry of Salim Chishti. I think that is why it did not take too much for us to convince him to play the character. At this juncture of his career and in his life, Dharam ji wants to do things that he believes in. So, when we met him and shared the story of the show, he was engaged and excited about everything."
Dharmendra was last seen in the film Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se in 2018 alongside his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. Apart from the upcoming series, he will soon be seen in the Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
Taj: Divided by Blood also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab, Sandhya Mridul, Aashim Gulati, Taaha Shah and Aditi Rao Hydari. It will be available to stream on OTTplay and ZEE5 on March 3.
