Guneet's latest venture, a documentary short film titled The Elephant Whisperers on Netflix, is headed to the 95th Academy Awards
Guneet Monga, a multiple award-winning film producer known for supporting budding storytellers and winning an Oscar for her short film End of Sentence, is set to team up again with prominent film director Umesh Bist for his next directorial venture. They previously worked together on the Sanya Malhotra-starring film Paggliat.
When asked what prompted her to work with Umesh again, Guneet said that she was impressed with his ability to tell a story with delicacy. "Umesh is a prolific storyteller who has a deep and delicate understanding of human emotions — that is his USP. That’s why the moving and extraordinary story of Pagglait touched the hearts of so many people."
Guneet will produce the film under her production company, Sikhya Entertainment, and this will be their second collaboration. Their earlier film Pagglait, released in 2021, also featured Ashotosh Rana, Shruti Sharma, Raghubir Yadav, and others alongside Sanya.
Guneet's latest venture, a documentary short film titled The Elephant Whisperers on Netflix, is headed to the 95th Academy Awards. Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, The Elephant Whisperers is the story of an indigenous couple in south India who bond with an orphaned elephant, Raghu, and become his caretakers. Guneet has previously been nominated for her short films Kavi (2010) and Period. End of Sentence (2018), both of which she executive produced.
Guneet is known for producing some of the most celebrated films, including the late Irrfan Khan starrer The Lunchbox, Monsoon Shootout, both parts of The Gangs of Wassepur, Masaan, Haraamkhor, and Soorarai Pottru, among many others. She has also collaborated with Tahira Kashyap for her next film. Tahira and Guneet worked together on the short film Pinni, which was part of the anthology named Zindagi Inshorts.
Guneet is also producing Sanya Malhotra's next film, titled Kathal, directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, which will be released on Netflix.
