Dhanush's upcoming film Vaathi, which is billed as a period action drama, is written and directed by Venky Atluri. The film is a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu and has Samyuktha Menon playing the leading lady. The film is gearing up to hit screens on December 2. In the meantime, we hear that the digital rights of the film have been bagged by Aha.


Dhanush plays junior lecturer at the Thirupathi Educational Institute. The teaser, which was released earlier on Dhanush's birthday, gave a glimpse of his character who seems to be on a mission to reform the education  system. Dhanush's character is titled Balamurugan, who takes on the unfair practices in the educational system. One of Dhanush's dialogues in the teaser,"Education is like an offering you give to people in a temple...Share it with everyone. Don't sell it like a five-star hotel dish," has gone on to become a hit.


This is the first time that Dhanush is teaming up with Venky Atluri. Vaathi is titled Sir in Telugu, and the film also marks Dhanush's first bilingual film. The star cast includes Samuthirakani, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Mottai Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, and Praveena. While music for the film is by GV Prakash, cinematography is by J Yuvraj. Navin Nooli has handled the editing.


The film has been bankrolled by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments along with Sai Soujanya of Fortune Four Cinemas. The film is presented by Srikara Studios. In the meantime, Dhanush's recent release Naane Varuven, directed by Selvaraghavan, has just hit the screens. Dhanush plays a dual role in the film, and his characters have been well appreciated by the audience. The film marks Elli AvrRam's debut in Tamil. The star cast includes Indhuja Ravichandran, Yogi Babu, Prabhu and child artiste Hiya Davey.
