An actor often preserves his best for his initial years - it’s that phase in their career where they’re raw, innocent, aren’t quite conscious of their method and yet strikingly original. Tholi Prema is one such film for Pawan Kalyan - it has played a crucial role in helping him emerge as the darling of the masses over the years. The film, where he co-starred Keerthi Reddy, was directed by A Karunakaran.
The light-hearted romance, which released in 1998, will complete its 25th release anniversary this year in July. Vasuki, Ali, Venu Madhav, Nagesh, Achyuth and others too played crucial roles in it. Ahead of its silver jubilee anniversary, the film is set to hit screens again. Sri Matha Creations plans to release the film in over 300 theatres on June 30; the official confirmation was out today.

GVG Raju had originally bankrolled the film under SSC Arts. Deva’s music for the romance was a rage with youngsters - numbers like Ee Manase Se Se, Emi Sodhara, Yemaindo Yemo Ee Vela enjoy popularity even today. Besides bagging the national award in the Best Feature film (Telugu) category, the Pawan Kalyan starrer won six Nandi Awards.
Tholi Prema was remade in Kannada, Hindi languages later while Srikanth, Bhumika’s Tamil film Roja Koottam too was based on a similar plot. The film is also remembered for laying a foundation for the marriage of art director Anand Sai and actress Vasuki. Pawan Kalyan’s another blockbuster Kushi too re-released on a grand scale to encouraging responses a few months ago. A film with the same title, starring Pawan Kalyan's nephew Varun Tej, released in 2018.
