If you were to look at late Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar’s filmography and pick only a handful of movies as must-watch elements, it would be hard task, considering that most of his works are classics in their own right. The on-demand video streaming platform Namma Flix has a small repertoire of Dr Rajkumar films and here are the ones that we think you absolutely have to catch.

Bhakta Prahlada

Directed by Vijay, this 1983 adaptation of the tale of Prahlada had the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar as a child artiste in the title role. Dr Rajkumar played Hiranyakashipu, Prahlada’s evil father and asura king. Bhakta Prahlada’s cast included Saritha, Anant Nag, Kanchana, Sadashiva Brahmavar, Srinivasa Murthy and Thoogudeepa Srinivas, among others.

Bhoo Kailasa

This 1958 film by director K Shankar was the story of Ravana, the great asura lord of Lanka and a devotee of Shiva to get the Atmalinga. Dr Rajkumar played Ravana, who is asked by his mother to bring the sacred Atmalinga from Kailash for her to pray. Kaviratna Kalidasa

The 1983 historical drama by Renuka Sharma has Dr Rajkumar as Kalidasa, a once humble and illiterate shepherd, who ends up marrying the princess of the land under certain circumstances. How he then attains the gift of knowledge from the goddess and becomes Kaviratna Kalidasa forms the crux of the narrative. Dr Rajkumar was paired with Jaya Prada in the film.
